Central
Otago, New Zealand
Central
Otago is a very special part of New Zealand. Initially made famous for
the golden riches of it's rivers, there are many new treasures in this
unique part of New Zealand that have since been discovered.
Situated on the south-eastern
boundary of the Southern Alps, the dramatic untouched scenery is breath-taking.
Mountain peaks, tussock covered hillsides, flowing rivers and clear blue
lakes are just some of the highlights of this much photographed and extremely
popular holiday destination.
The sub-alpine climate
of Central Otago, with it's long hot summers and crisp cold winters has
also seen Central become one of the worlds top producers of stone fruit
such as Nectarines, Apricots, Peaches and Cherries. More recently Central
has also become recognised as an exceptional wine-growing region. In fact,
one of our local vineyards has recently been awarded the prize of "Best
Pinot Noir in the world"!
There
are many reasons to come to Central. From some of the country's best fishing
to its top vineyards, the thrill of mountain biking through remote tussock
to the leisurely pleasure of a stroll through mountain orchards. Arts,
crafts, fine regional food. Jet boating, gold panning, ice skating outdoors
on a clear winter's day. The satisfaction of a relaxed round of golf amidst
some of the best scenery you can get. These are just a few of Central
Otago's experiences.
Most visitors who
come here never want to leave. But they take home treasured memories,
and nearly always return. So discover this special place for yourself,
and take away a piece of Central Otago in your heart.
